Updates Bounty tournaments divide value between the normal prize pool and rewards for eliminating opponents.
Fixed bounty
Each player carries a fixed knock-out reward. Eliminate that player and you earn the bounty according to the event rules.
Progressive knockout
In a progressive knockout, a player’s bounty can grow as they eliminate opponents, creating increasingly valuable targets.
Strategic effect
A hand that would be marginal in a normal event can become more attractive when winning it also captures a meaningful bounty. But the exact math depends on the bounty value, stacks and remaining prize pool.
Before entering
Check how much of the buy-in goes to the regular prize pool versus the bounty pool and whether bounties are cash, credits or another prize form.
Bounty value changes decisions
There are two prizes in many pots
In a bounty event, eliminating a player can create immediate value in addition to ordinary tournament chips. When a short stack is all-in, this can legitimately widen the range with which covering players continue.
Covering matters
You can normally win a player’s bounty only if your stack covers the chips they have at risk. Before making a bounty-driven call, confirm effective stacks rather than assuming every all-in opponent is eligible.
Progressive knockouts add another layer
In progressive knockout formats, part of a won bounty may increase your own bounty instead of being paid immediately. The value attached to eliminating specific opponents can therefore change throughout the event.
