Two events with the same field size and buy-in can feel very different depending on how many places are paid and how top-heavy the payouts are.
Key terms
- Prize pool: the portion allocated to tournament prizes.
- Places paid: how many finishing positions receive prizes.
- Min-cash: the smallest paid finish.
- Top-heavy: a larger share reserved for the final few places.
Bubble
The “bubble” is the last unpaid finishing position. Stack values and risk can change sharply near this point because surviving one more elimination may create a cash payout.
Fees matter
Do not assume the posted buy-in equals the prize-pool contribution. Check the organizer’s breakdown for fees, bounties or other deductions.
