A hand has showdown value when checking through can win often enough against an opponent’s range without needing that opponent to fold.
Do not bluff automatically with every missed premium hand
Ace-high, a small pair or other medium hand may beat missed draws and weaker holdings. Betting can fold out the hands you already beat while getting called by stronger ones.
Thin value
Thin value means betting a hand that is only modestly ahead of the opponent’s calling range. It requires identifying enough worse hands that can realistically call.
Bluff-catchers
A bluff-catcher usually loses to an opponent’s value range but beats bluffs. The decision becomes a question of price and whether the opponent has enough plausible bluffs.
Range interaction matters
The same top pair can be a strong value hand on one runout and a cautious bluff-catcher on another.
