Weekend room options

That's the big difference from a weeknight. On a Tuesday, west-end players have fewer choices. From Friday to Sunday, Mohawk and Brantford are both in play, so direction matters less. Hours can change, so check poker room hours or the venue before you set out.

Expect the waitlist to matter

Weekends can bring more players and more tables, but also longer lists. A room that publishes a wide range of stakes isn't promising that every limit is running when you arrive. On a busy Saturday, the live list matters more than how big the room is.

Tournament players

Pickering currently advertises weekly poker tournaments. Start times, buy-ins and registration rules change, so use the venue schedule for the specific weekend. Cash-game players

Pick your stake, but keep a fallback. If you're aiming for $2/$5, decide ahead of time whether $1/$3 is fine if the bigger game hasn't started. That decision is easier at home than at the podium after a forty-minute drive.

Build a fallback into the trip

If a specific game matters, pick a second room or an acceptable alternative stake before you go. A simple Saturday plan might look like this:

1. Plan A: $1/$3 at Great Canadian Toronto, starting around 8 p.m.
2. Check at 7 p.m.: the live list shows a long wait for $1/$3.
3. Plan B: check Pickering's list if you're east, or Mohawk's if you're west. Go to whichever has your game with a shorter wait.
4. Limits: set your budget and stop time before you leave, same as any night.

Weekend etiquette reminders

Don't forget the drive home

Late weekend sessions end at 2 or 3 a.m. more often than people plan for. Decide your stop time before you sit down, and sort out how you're getting home before the first hand, especially if you're drinking.
